What is Rovers?

  • Rovers is a section of Scouts-Canada Organization, with members aged 18 and older.
  • The Rover motto is “Service”
  • Each Rover crew performs a community service project.
  • Ours is Search and Rescue
Rovers Search and Rescue

  • Founded in 1972 Originally part of EMO(Emergency Measures Organization)
  • The need arose for more support for EMO
  • The Rovers were recruited and EMO carried out the original training exercises.
  • Completely volunteer & non-profit organization.
  • Comprised of two Rover crews from the Region
    • 6th St. John’s
    • 3rd Wesley
  • Total membership is presently 75 women and men.

    “The Primary Mandate of the Rovers Ground Search and Rescue is to Provide Auxiliary Support to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) for Ground Search and Rescue Operations and other Emergency Situations”

    Helicopter Rappelling Training

    The Rovers are training for helicopter rappelling. Once qualified, they will be able to operate as a team member and perform vertical rescue scenarios, while rappelling from a helicopter. Such skills might be used on the cliffs of the St. Johns coastline. <br> <br> Many thanks to the Emergency Measures Organization, St. Johns Regional Fire Dept and Universal Helicopters for their assistance....
